You may be wondering…
Q. Am I ready to quit smoking?
A. Ask yourself if you are strongly motivated to quit. This motivation has
to come mostly from you – not your family or friends or physician. (The
Questionnaire has interesting questions you can ask yourself about your motivation.)
Hypnosis then powerfully increases this motivation. Of course, you may feel
a conflict. Part of you wants to quit and another part wants to smoke. After
all it’s a habit. Hypnosis settles the conflict between these parts so
that all of you wants the best for you. The struggle is over.
Q. But I’ve smoked since I was a teen-ager! It’s my friend, a
part of who I am. How can I give that up?
A. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been hurting your body. It
always feels better when you stop! And it’s not a friend—it’s
a harmful habit. Do you really want to hold onto a “friend” that
lies and stabs you in the back? When you say good-riddance to this past habit
you aren’t giving up anything but ill-health. You quickly regain energy
and breathe easier. And you will be saying, “Regardless of why I started,
I’m glad to be a Non-Smoker! I am free!”
Q. How do the Stop-Smoking Sessions work?
A. Please read “Understanding Hypnosis” and “Frequent Questions” for
how you can easily change habits with hypnosis. The method that I’ve
discovered works best is two sessions a week apart. Over 90% of my clients
stop smoking the first session. The following week they listen to the FREE
reinforcement tape/CD. The second session deals with any left-over habits or
stress. I do insist on scheduling the two sessions because I want everyone
to succeed, forever! (For that reason and to seal your commitment to yourself,
I ask payment for both sessions at the beginning.)
Q. Should I also use the nicotine patch, gum or lozenge?
What about prescription medication?
A. That is your decision. Most of my clients who smoke a pack a day or more
find that it is even easier to become a Non-Smoker if they ease off the nicotine
with the patch, gum, or lozenge for a few weeks. (These are available over
the counter and contain recommendations for their use.) If you choose, ask
your physician about prescription medication and start it BEFORE the session.
Q. What happens to the urges to smoke? Do they just go away?
A. Most clients report that the “urges” quickly fade and in fact
seem more like “memories”. After all, the desire to smoke was only
a habit. It was associated with events in your day or feelings, such as stress.
When you change the associations and experience stress-relief, the need to
smoke is gone. You also learn quick and easy self-hypnosis skills for increasing
your motivation and changing your reaction to any of the old triggers.
Q. Will I gain weight? Many of my friends did!
A. Most of my smoke-free clients do not gain worrisome weight. You’ll
be happy to know that the sessions contain suggestions for eating healthy and
exercising. In fact, you may naturally eat less without cigarettes because
the food tastes so much better and you eat slower and enjoy it. If a cigarette
is a pacifier for your stress and if you don’t learn a calorie-free way
to reduce your stress, of course you might eat more. I teach you quick and
easy techniques to reduce stress and any compulsion to put something in your
mouth.
Nicotine does decrease hunger so you will need to think through your eating
habits. Is there a lot of junk food around? Replace it with healthier foods,
calorie free beverages, chewing gum, etc… Nicotine also increases the
metabolic rate so that you burn more calories even while sitting. The solution
when you are smoke-free? To move more! You feel better, look even better, and
don’t gain weight.
Q. What about stress? Cigarettes calm me down.
A. That’s right—they do seem to relax you. But, consider this.
Nicotine is a stimulant. It increases your heart rate and blood pressure. It
is a poison—too much and you feel jittery and shaky. One reason it seems
to relax you is because you were addicted to the nicotine. A few hours after
a cigarette you felt the nervous craving for the chemical. When you got your “fix” you
felt better. The nervousness was there because of the smoking habit! Without
the habit the cause for that nervousness is gone. It feels so good to be free.
Also, consider this. We all have stress. We need ways to get away from it
for a few moments, relax, calm down, clear our heads . . . Some people do it
with a walk—getting outside, breathing the fresh air, and thinking things
through. Others do it with yoga or breathing techniques. What do you think
the ritual of smoking is? Taking a break! Focusing on the breath! By replacing
your habit of smoking with quick relaxation tools, there is no longer any need
for cigarettes. You easily learn these in the sessions and on the tape/CD.
You end up even more relaxed as a Non-Smoker!
Q.How do I prepare for my Stop Smoking Sessions?
A. Your willingness to experience positive change in your life. If you knew
that thousands have easily stopped smoking with Hypnosis, have not gained worrisome
weight, and are even more relaxed, why not experience this for yourself? In
over 25 years of my medical experience this is the best method I’ve found
for helping people kick the habit.
