“But,
My Dear, You’ve Had the Power to Go Home All Along!”
So said
Glenda, the Good Witch of the North, to Dorothy from Kansas.
Dorothy had been
searching for an entire Wizard of Oz movie for a way to get back home.
She’d
almost died in the narcotic effects of a poppy field. She’d been
captured by
the Wicked Witch of the West. (I
don’t
know about you, but as a child I was very worried as the grains of
sand,
representing her life, trickled to the bottom of the hour-glass!) And
she’d
been tricked by a charlatan of a “wizard.” And then when he
sailed off without
her, the desperate and despairing Dorothy was told that she’d had
the power all
along.
Wouldn’t
it
be magical if all it took to go back to a safe, comfortable happy
feeling
(home) were three clicks of ruby slippers?
When I work
with children’s fears (school, tests, the dark, dogs, dentists,
flying, etc…)
they learn to use the power of their
“Magic Mind-Machine.” Dispelling fears and
anxiety, they imagine confidence, courage and self-esteem so vividly
that this
becomes their new reality. They cope
with previously scary situations and carry this self-mastery into the
future. And
then success breeds success. They have learned that they had the power
in them
all along.
Adults
aren’t
much different. Aren’t most fears irrational?
Either they are phobias
that
started from childhood incidents or they are projections into the
future that
probably won’t come true. They are in the imagination of the
Sub-Conscious
Mind. Whether these are the fears of public speaking (supposedly a more
prevalent fear than the fear of death!), flying, dentists, MRI
machines,
heights, elevators, or lizards, they are basically unreal.
“I can fly, I
can fly,” a woman exclaimed as she jumped out in front of me at a
side-walk
café in Melbourne, waving her arms like a bird. “I did it,
I flew to Costa
Rica! I’m free!” And then I remembered who this
enthusiastic woman was and that
we had worked together for her fear of flying.
Just like
children, adults have the power to change the old programming of their
Sub-Conscious Minds. With the power of Hypnotherapy and guidance they
can
experience a new reality.
We all have
the power within us to go home to safety and freedom. And isn’t
that what we
want? Because “there’s no place like home.”
