"Life itself
is the proper binge."
-- Julia Child
And if you are like me, you
might have binged on pleasure during the holidays.
It was so tempting when the treats were in plain sight
and others were indulging! Good memories, perhaps,
but might there be a few extra pounds?
So, if your first response is "I
really have to go on a diet!" please— stop
and think. Has this tactic worked before and for how
long? Short term diets are fine for just a few pounds
but research shows that they seldom work for the long-haul.
Want the good news and the
bad news about weight loss?
The good news: Eating
is just a habit. The quantity and quality of foods
and the manner of eating were taught to us by our parents.
These were then reinforced or changed over the years
by friends, family, advertising, grocery stores and
restaurants. And habits can be changed.
The bad news: Unhealthy
eating habits and too little activity has resulted
in a 66% incidence of obesity or overweight for Americans.
Our children are increasingly super-sized. The ill-health
consequences of diabetes, hypertension, stroke, heart
disease, and some cancers make overweight a virtual
epidemic!
Want a new strategy for a
New Year?
Not will-power please! That uses the
conscious mind and is short-term only. We want life-style
changes to be permanent and as easy as possible. This
requires the cooperation of the sub-conscious mind
which contains all unconscious habits, emotions, motivations
and even resistance. And working with the sub-conscious
mind is called Hypnotherapy.
Research shows that diets often don’t
work but that Hypnotherapy can. In the last 5 years
of the "Weight Loss with Hypnosis: Using Your
Mind for a Change" workshops at Sebastian River
Medical Center we’ve documented over 95% success
in changing problem habits and installing positive
ones. Self-hypnosis can keep the changes permanent.
You can do it!
Whether you or a friend attend these
workshops, invest in private sessions or tackle the
habits yourself, one by one, know that you can do it!
Eating is just a habit. When you "Make the Change
that Makes the Difference" you’ll discover
that the sweet pleasure of life itself is guilt-free.
