"Thank you for helping me lower my sugar blood level. I am no longer on medicine for my diabetes! I’m a believer!"

-- Lorraine Rodriguiz, Vero Beach, FL.

"Professional hypnosis is a wonderful way to restore balance to the Mind-Body disequilibrium that manifests itself as so many difficult-to-treat disease states. It is a great tool for life management as well as disease management."

-- Guy Ulrich, MD Internal Medicine Vero Beach, FL.

Can Hypnotherapy help real medical problems?

Definitely. Research shows that it can help many types of illnesses and symptoms.

How is this possible if the problem is in the physical body?

Because the mind and body are not separate. The "mind" (thoughts, perceptions, beliefs, feelings, habits, memories, etc…) is directly connected though nerves and hormones to the entire body. And anything that happens to the body is relayed back to the mind.

How does Hypnotherapy help physical conditions?

The physical/mental state called "hypnosis" is healing all by itself.
In this relaxed state blood pressure and pulse lower, muscles relax, pain decreases, the immune system is enhanced, elevated blood sugar decreases and intestinal activity come back towards normal.
Many physical problems are worsened by stress, anxiety and depression.
Hypnotherapy works directly with the sub-conscious patterns of thinking and reacting so that you are calmer and more positive, no matter what is going on physically.
The sub-conscious mind directly affects the autonomic nervous system and hormones.
Suggestions given in the hypnosis sessions can directly change such bodily functions as blood flow, allergic responses and gut activity and decrease stress hormones.
Research shows that physical sensations are only perception.
Your brain literally doesn’t know the difference between what is "real" and what is imagined. Through your powerful imagination you can change your perception of pain.
Hypnotherapy improves your motivation to take good care of yourself.
By befriending yourself and changing eating, exercise, sleeping and smoking habits you feel better. And your body says, "Thank you! Now I have better chance to heal!" With self-hypnosis you continue these good feelings and lifestyle changes.

Which medical conditions might improve with Hypnotherapy?

You’ll be surprised at how widely Hypnosis is used for medical conditions.

In the Scientific Research link see the article "Hypnosis in Contemporary Medicine" by James Stewart, MD from the Mayo Clinic Proceedings which reviews 119 studies.

He concludes that hypnosis has been shown to improve: allergies, anesthesia, asthma, atopic dermatitis, burns, childbirth, chemotherapy reactions, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, healing and recovery from surgery or injury, headaches, hemophilia, hypertension, insomnia, impotence, interstitial cystitis, incontinence, migraines, pain, peptic ulcer, tinnitus, warts. And many conditions haven’t been studied yet to examine all the benefits of Hypnosis.

The article "Mind-Body Medicine: State of the Science, Implications for Practice" in the Journal of the American Board of Family Practice concludes: " There is considerable evidence of efficacy in the treatment of coronary artery disease (eg, cardiac rehabilitation), headaches, insomnia, incontinence, chronic low back pain, disease and treatment-related symptoms of cancer, and improving postsurgical outcomes. We found moderate evidence of efficacy in the areas of hypertension and arthritis. An array of mind-body therapies can be used as effective adjuncts to conventional medical treatment for a number of common clinical conditions."

Does my physician need to refer me for Medical Hypnosis?

Yes. Even though I am a physician licensed in Florida I am not doing any medical diagnosis or treatment for you. Your physician is responsible for testing, prescribing, referring and following your progress. I am serving as a consultant for Hypnotherapy and need a referral for this. Simply have your physician or other licensed health care provider give you a note—"Hypnosis for (your name) for (diagnosis) by Dr. Doner" or have them call it to my office. I do not need medical records. This is medical teamwork and I will keep your provider informed of your progress.

"I used to get up four to five times a night to urinate even with medication. With my own hypnotic suggestion I now get up about two times without the medication!"

                                           -- Gaylord Owens, Sebastian, FL.

"Patients treated with hypnosis experienced substantial benefits for many different medical conditions."

-- James H. Stewart, MD Mayo Clinic Proceedings
